iOS 4.3 beta 1 released: Hardware orientation lock is back!

Hotspot might be just a little bit closer than some of us originally expected. Yesterday we reported that Apple was planning on releasing the functionality in iOS 4.3 and today iOS 4.3 beta 1 has shipped to developers.

There’s also some insanely great news about iOS 4.3 beta 1: Apple’s brought the hardware orientation lock back from the dead. I seriously hope this sticks. The software lock is a giant pile of crap. Hotspot might also just be a little bit closer than we expected.

Also of interest is an Apple TV software beta update that lists off “to be used for testing of AirPlay with your iOS 4.3 apps” as the primary point of interest.

I know expecting AirPlay to stream entire applications to your television is a giant-impossible reach at this point, but I can’t help but hope Apple’s about to blow our socks off.

Dare to dream, I guess. If you’re a developer, be sure to get your update on, and let us know what’s going on with the release.

Update 1: Apple seems to have dropped iPhone 3G  and  2nd Gen. iPod touch support for the iOS beta.
