Google Goggles comes to the iPhone

A couple of months ago, we reported that an iPhone version of Google Goggles was in the works. At the time, the app was only available for Android phones. Yesterday, Google finally announced that the iPhone version was ready to go and would come packaged with the Google Mobile App for iPhone.

Google Goggles lets you use your phone’s camera to take a picture and then uses this picture to search Google. This technology is still under development, and for now it works well for some items, such as books and logos, while for other items, such as plants and animals, the technology is still a little rocky. Google Goggles requires an auto-focusing camera to function and so it only works on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.

Check out the video below to get a taste of how Google Goggles works. Google Mobile is available for free on the App Store. If you’ve already downloaded the app, go get the most recent update and Google Goggles will be added to the app.
