Apple to launch social gaming Framework

During today’s big iPhone OS 4 announcement, Apple gave us a brief heads-up on what is to come in the future of iPhone and iPod Touch games. Like the ever-popular Xbox Live service from Microsoft, Apple will be implementing a social gaming framework: A place to share your gaming information with your friends. This is, at least for now, called “GameKit.” I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a more consumer-friendly game at launch.

Matchmaking and Achievements have both been officially announced, but very little detail is public. When OS iPhone 4 ships this summer, we’ll be able to really put it through its paces.

So, what do you think of Apple’s foray into the world of social gaming? Can Apple provide a better way of interacting with your friends? Will the iPhone become the defacto gaming device of the masses? Comment on this post or hit me up on Twitter.
