Apple adds children’s picture books to the iBookstore

Yesterday, Apple gave publishers the ability to add illustrated books to the iBookstore, and today, children’s picture books make an appearance on the store. Parents everywhere must be rejoicing.

We’ve been advocating for a while now that Apple let fully animated “books” into the iBookstore. Applications like Toy Story would have a better place in an iBook collection than it does on my home screen. In our opinion, if your “app” is a glorified book, it should be in the iBookstore, not the App Store.

This news is a step in the right direction for Apple, and hopefully we see it pushed to the “new” book format.

Currently, Apple’s promoting children’s picture books on the iBookstore. They’ve broken down the listings by age and by series.

The picture books seem to range between $3.99 and $12.99 on the iBookstore.
