Four million iPhone 4Ss sold over the first weekend, a new record for Apple

Apple has announced figures for the first weekend of its iPhone 4S sales, and surprisingly it’s doing a lot better than the original iPhone 4. During the first weekend on the market, Apple has sold 4 over four million iPhone 4S devices, topping the 1.7 million sales of the iPhone 4 last year over the same period.

The iPhone 4S is currently only on sale in seven countries (Canada, UK, US, Japan, France, Germany, Australia), with 22 more countries coming into the fold on the 28th of October.

According to Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Product Marketing:

iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days … iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.”

One thing is certain, Apple clearly knows what it’s doing with these iPhone sales. The media, myself included, were calling for an iPhone 5, but Apple gave us an iPhone 4S, and it’s mopping the floor with the competition right now. This is probably why I write for a living instead of make the call on products at the highest levels.
