My Xbox LIVE App Update, Console Control Now On iPad

Microsoft recently updated their Xbox LIVE iOS app, adding remote control capabilities for the iPad. Originally, only the iPhone had remote control options. Although not as detailed as Microsoft’s Smartglass Xbox companion app, this update comes with a few useful features for the iPad.

The app was first released in December 2011 with only limited capabilities, like the ability to browse Xbox LIVE content, access to friend list, and message editing. Version 1.5, which was released in June, came with the Xbox Companion remote control functionality to the iPhone. It also came with higher-resolution image support for the iPad.

Version 1.6, the app’s most recent update, adds the missing Companion remote control feature to the iPad. This function allows users to launch games, browse Xbox LIVE video content, play DVDs or videos, and navigate to the console’s UI:

Use your iPad with your Xbox to connect, control and discover content on your console. Connect your iPad for access to a quick list of your most recent console activity. Control your content with play, pause, fast forward and rewind media controls. Find fresh entertainment to play in the new Discover section.

So for those who use Xbox LIVE and have an iPad they’d like to use with it, head over  to the App Store to download this free app.
