Words With Friends HD has added Facebook Connect to their arsenal today. Instead of having to add people by email or Game Center accounts, you can send out invites to people who you’re friends with on Facebook. All you have to do is connect the game to your Facebook account and you’re off to the races.
It’s a great move, and it’s an even bigger commentary on the proliferation of Facebook. In order for a social network tie-in to actually work, people have to be using it. Early social media was about finding strangers online with similar interests, but today’s social network is about finding people you already know. Game Center clearly hasn’t caught on with the masses. I would prefer to not rely on Facebook for putting together Words With Friends matches, but when it comes to tracking down Mom for a match, Facebook is still king.
