TiVo releases a free iPad application

Finally, TiVo brings something to the iPad. For a device that was so revolutionary when it shipped, it’s kind of hilarious that it’s taken them so long to get an application onto the iOS App Store.

The application, titled TiVo, is designed ‘especially’ for the TiVo Premiere box. The application was specifically designed to let you “search, browse, discover, and share” your television guide without ever having to stop the show you’re watching.

According to the release, you can also manage and schedule your recordings, but you don’t seem to be able to watch them directly from the TiVo iPad application, which is a huge bummer.

I don’t personally have a TiVo, but if you do, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the application.

Given the state of AirPlay and Apple TV, is there a market still for TiVo? Obviously the TiVo is excellent for getting your live television fix, but as an industry, are we heading away from that type of model and towards an on demand model?  If that’s the case, wouldn’t it be best if TiVo let users watch their recordings directly on their iPad?
