Rumor: You better sell that iPad. iPad 2 to launch in April

If you own an iPad, you should probably consider selling it right this very second. It’s still a buyers market, and the general population might not be aware that the iPad 2 is just around the corner. Sell, sell, sell.

According to rumors today, Apple’s preparing to launch the iPad 2 on either April 2nd or 9th (how’s that for an accurate source), which means that an announcement should be coming any day now. It’s also being said that this new iPad will be U.S. exclusive for several months before finally being released internationally in July.

The U.S. exclusivity thing doesn’t make all that much sense to me, considering this wouldn’t be a new product announcement that would require new contracts to be in place with carriers before launch. The only remote excuse there might be for this is supply and demand, but Apple rarely gets caught with their pants down around announcements, especially when the first version of a product does so well the first time around. The success of the original iPad  surprised everyone, including Apple, but if iPad 2 is just as successful, it won’t surprise anyone. Chris Peters, in the comments below, points out that there has been a traditional delay when it comes to iPhone announcements and release dates internationally.  Up here in Canada, the iPhone 4 launched in July, a full two months after the US announcement. The original iPads were also delayed and then delayed again, although rumors surrounding the delays at that time hinted that it had more to do with supply than with anything else.  Hopefully we don’t see a similar problem this time around.

An iPad 2 shipping in the spring is a safe bet so long as an announcement happens by late January or early February, so didn’t exactly go out on a limb with this rumor.

But, if you’re the type of Apple user who needs the absolute latest or greatest gadget than you’re going to want to start petitioning your sales prospects to sell your first generation iPad, because iPad 2 is just around the corner and it’s going to get a lot of press once it’s announced.
