Adobe has been surprisingly forward-thinking as far as iOS support goes. They have released numerous apps, both free and for pay, for iOS, and undoubtedly, Photoshop Touch is one of the best known. This portable version of their popular image editor is available on the App Store for only $9.99 USD, but it has been nigh-on unusable on the third generation iPad. Today, that changes.

Version 1.3 of Photoshop Touch is available now as a free update to previous users. This new version not only allows manipulation of photos as big as 12 megapixels, but it also is the first version with Retina support. Now you can view and edit your photos at native resolution. It’s about damn time.

In addition to the aforementioned changes, this update also brings Russian support, Brazilian Portuguese support, two new photo effects, smoother scrolling, a new gesture-based toggle, precise image movement, and Photo Stream support. This is, without a doubt, a very worthy update. No, this isn’t as powerful as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements on the desktop, but this is still extremely useful, and it’s a tiny fraction of the cost. If you are doing any sort of web work on your iPad, this is a no-brainer. Photo enthusiasts will love this as well, obviously. It’s saved my bacon when I’m away from my desk numerous time, and I’ll bet you’ll feel the same way. If you haven’t used this before, now is the time.
