The wait is over. Colorware, the custom paint job for tech gadgets company, has finally added the iPad 2 to their list of devices. You can start with either the black or the white iPad 2 in Wi-Fi or 3G versions, and then pick the colour of the back, the Apple logo, the antenna for the 3G version, and the Home button.
There are 21 solid colour choices, 21 metallic colours, and 4 pearl colours, in gloss or matte ‘SofTouch’ finish. You can even have the logo completely removed (gasp) if you wish, for an additional fee. Oh yes, did I mention the fee?
There are two options from Colorware. You can purchase a new device in the colours of your choosing, or you can elect to send in your own iPad 2 and have them colour it. To purchase a device from them will set you back $900 for the 16GB WiFi version, or $1030 for the 16GB 3G GSM version. Sending in your own iPad 2 will cost you $400 for the paint job, and a 4 week wait in either case.
Colorware does custom paint jobs on many other gadgets as well, including iPhones, MacBooks, and even gaming consoles and Segways, if you can believe it. Colorware will definitely give you the most unique looking iPad 2, if you’re willing to pay for it.
