iOS 4.2 might make the iPhone 3G bearable again

I’m bordering on ashamed to admit this, but I’m going to say it anyway: I’m still rocking the iPhone 3G. I toyed with the idea of an iPhone 4, but by the time I made my decision, I figured it would be smart to wait for the next generation. In the meantime, I’ve been struggling immensely with the iPhone 3G and the lag that comes along with it. I don’t blame Apple, nor do I expect them to support it still, but I can’t help but feel a little excited knowing that Apple may have made a few tweaks in iOS 4.2 that will help me use the iPhone 3G just a little bit longer.

The iPhone Blog has put out a video showing an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.2, and you can clearly see just how responsive iOS is now. You can check out the video below.

As a quick aside, there seems to be varying degrees of sluggishness between the iPhone 3G models. For instance, my 3G is a lot quicker than my brother’s phone, despite both being patched, and both running the same iOS versions. If I was him, I would have thrown the phone out of the window by now. So, your results might vary with iOS 4.2, but I’m sure at this point any performance boost is a good thing.
