Apple TV gets slight software update

The new, tiny, iOS-running Apple TV has been upgraded to 4.2.1, according to MacRumors. The new software is Build 8C154 and doesn’t seem to add any new functionality to the device.

Oddly, the Apple TV continues to report its software version incorrectly, showing this update as “4.1.1.” At time of publishing, no details about the update are available on Apple’s support webpage for the Apple TV.

To download the 267MB download, navigate to Settings within the Apple TV’s UI, go to General and select “Update Software.”

Update: According to a knowledge base article on Apple’s support website, the update includes the following fixes:

  • Addresses an issue that causes some high-definition TVs to incorrectly display at 480p.
  • Addresses an issue that may cause a movie or TV show to be re-downloaded.

Of note, this support document names the update 4.1.1.
