You know those CDs that come in your AppleCare box that you’re not sure what you’re suppose to do with? As of March 2nd (yesterday), Tech Tool Deluxe is not going to be included with boxes of Applecare. So what does this mean? You still get all the fantastic benefits of AppleCare, the extra 2 years of warranty coverage and a full three years of phone support. To be really honest with you all, I’ve been doing professional Apple support for 11 years and have never put one of those CDs in a computer. I won’t miss them and will feel better about myself for not having things to throw out when I register someone’s AppleCare for them.
If you remove the Tech Tools Deluxe from the box, all you’re really buying is a code and a booklet that explains the rules. Will AppleCare go the way of MobileMe and be available for purchase online only? There’s not really any reason why it shouldn’t at this point. I guess only time will tell.
If you were a lover of Tech Tool Deluxe and are looking for tools for Mac maintenance and repair, check out Diskwarrior or Drive Genius 3. These are the tools I keep in my work bag and use on a daily basis.
