Remembering Steve Jobs: Apple Honors Late CEO With Video Tribute On Anniversary Of His Death

Steve Jobs passed away one year ago, on October 5, 2011, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. On the anniversary of his death, Apple is paying tribute to the visionary that was Steve Jobs with a video that features quotes and pictures of him with the products he created.

The video begins with a Wayne Gretzky quote: “I skate to to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been,” which basically defines Steve Jobs’ career. The video is posted on the main page of the Apple website, and is followed by a message from Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO since Steve’s passing.

The tribute video and Tim Cook’s letter really highlight the way Steve Jobs changed the world of technology, with smartphones, computers, and even portable music. Cook describes Apple as “one of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world. No company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself.” Whether an Apple fan or rival, there’s no denying that Jobs was a creative genius who changed the tech industry in huge ways. Here’s Tim Cook’s message in full:

A message from Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

Steve’s passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us. I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place.

One of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world is Apple. No company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself. Our values originated from Steve and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We share the great privilege and responsibility of carrying his legacy into the future.

I’m incredibly proud of the work we are doing, delivering products that our customers love and dreaming up new ones that will delight them down the road. It’s a wonderful tribute to Steve’s memory and everything he stood for.

Tim
