Price Of An HPV Vaccine Treatment? Nothing, Free $20 iTunes Gift Card.

I just… I don’t even… Wait, what? Students at East Carolina University can now buy their favorite app, song, or film without having to pay a dime out of pocket. The school’s Student Health Services Center has begun giving students who complete the Genital Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination cycle $20.00 iTunes gift cards.

I just, I don’t even know what to say. Yay health, maybe?

From the Vaccine News website:

The new program, called Knock Out HPV, provides the vaccination to voluntary participants who are of good health. In return, students are given a $20 iTunes gift card and are entered into a drawing to win an iPad2. The entire three-dose cycle must be completed before the compensation is awarded.

Having to reward students for getting treatments, whether it’s preventative or not, is pretty pathetic. The approach, while interesting, is certainly bound to raise a couple eyebrows around the globe. I wonder if Apple ever foresaw a day when student health centers would reward iTunes gift cards for the treatment of STDs. I certainly never saw it coming.
