Apple has been putting a lot of focus on opening new retail stores and has reportedly signed a lease to open a new Apple Store in The Hague in the Netherlands. The new store will be located in the historic Passage mall, which was built in 1885 in a Neo-Renaissance style.
The lease is for a three-level bookstore space in The Passage. Apple’s new location may leave holiday shoppers somewhat disappointed next year, though, as the terms of the lease will end a decade-long tradition of displaying a large Christmas tree in the rotunda of the mall. Apple is prohibiting the Christmas tree because it will block the company’s retail storefront.
Apple will reportedly occupy about 18,800 square-feet on the basement, ground, and upper levels of the bookstore and will also take some portion of the adjacent retail stores.
The historic, city-center mall is the home of international retailers and an upscale hotel. It’s also home to Amax, a 21-location Apple Premium Reseller, whose store is about 175 feet away from where Apple’s future store will be. Construction will begin once the bookstore vacates the space. The new Apple Store is scheduled for a fall 2013 grand opening.
