With Apple now under fire for avoiding taxes in the UK, it’s the perfect time for the company to hire a new taxman to make sure all the periods are in the right place. A recent SEC filing by Symantec has indicated that Apple has hired Philip A. Bullock to head up its tax department.

Phillip A. Bullock, who was appointed as Symantec’s Chief Accounting Officer in September 2009, announced he will be leaving the Company to lead the tax department at Apple, Inc., and not due to any disagreement with the Company on any matters relating to the Company’s operations, policies or practices.
Apple’s found themselves in some hot water in the UK for only paying £10million in UK corporation tax, despite earning a whopping £6 billion in the country last year. Apple’s UK operation is run in Cork, Ireland, which is done to take “advantage of its ultra-low rate of corporation tax. At just 12.5 per cent, the Irish charge is just over half the 24 per cent rate in the UK.” Apple’s not the only one in trouble with the taxman either; both Google and Amazon have also come under fire in recent days.
Maybe Bullock can get this stuff sorted out quickly. Apparently it’s a great time to be a taxman at Apple Inc.
