Apple Launches New Replacement Program For iPhone 5’s With Battery Woes

That’s two things you now need to get your iPhone 5 checked out for at the Apple Store the next time you make a genius appointment. First, it was the lock button, and now it’s the battery.

If you purchased an iPhone 5 between September 2012 and January 2013, and your battery is a piece of crap that won’t keep a charge, you may be eligible for a replacement.

A new iPhone 5 battery replacement program has been launched by the company, and if you’re stuck with a lemon you can now get it fixed up free of charge.

Straight from the mouth of Apple:

…a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently.

If you don’t qualify for that fix, you may want to check out the sleep/wake button replacement program while you’re at it too. According to Apple, all iPhone 5’s manufactured up until March 2013 may be built with faulty sleep/wake buttons.

If you’re curious, all you have to do is enter your serial number into Apple’s website and they’ll check their files for you to figure out if you qualify.

It’s looking like it wasn’t a very good year to rely on Foxconn, et al. to build phones during this time period.
