Netflix To Get Four Exclusive Marvel TV Shows, One Miniseries

In a massive new deal, Netflix and Disney announced today that the two would be pairing up to release four (Yes, that’s right, four) TV shows each starring a different superhero, as well as one mini-series that sees them all join forces.

Each series will focus on a different Marvel superhero, with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage earning starring roles. The shows will be produced by Marvel Television and won’t start making their way to our streaming devices until sometime in 2015.

The epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel’s “The Defenders” mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

It’s a really cool concept and one that shows Netflix is interested in trying out new things and taking some risks with its service. Signing on for five shows starring superheroes that the average viewer has never heard of before is likely something you wouldn’t see anyone besides Netflix try.

Sadly, 2015 seems like forever away.
