Instagram Unveils How Advertisements Will Look On The Service

Whether you like it or not, Instagram is finally get advertising. While users won’t start seeing advertisements pop-up until sometime in the coming week, Instagram showed off today just what they’ll look like when they do.

As you can see below, users will start having pictures show up in their feed with a little “Sponsored” symbol above them where the time stamp usually goes. They can then like or comment on the photo, just like they could on a friend’s picture.

We want ads to be creative and engaging, so we’re starting with just a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community. If you see an ad that doesn’t interest you, you can tap the “…” below it to hide it and provide feedback about what you didn’t like. This will help us show you more interesting ads in the future.

In addition to photo ads, companies will also have the option to do video advertisements. Some of the brands you should expect to see at the start are Adidas, Ben & Jerry’s, Lexus, Macy’s and Paypal to name a few.

If you’ve never used Instagram before, now’s your last chance to get in on the no-ads era.
