Yell At Your Friends, WhatsApp Gets Voice Messages

If you’re one of the 300 million people that use WhatsApp every month, you’ll be excited to hear about a new feature that’s hit the messaging service.

WhatsApp has been updated to include voice messages that users can now send to each other as an alternative to typing out a message. Voice messages have no limit on their length, and can be listened to privately if the user brings their phone to their ear.

We spend a lot of time at WhatsApp thinking how we can make keeping in touch easier, and we know there’s no substitute for hearing the sound of a friend or family member’s voice. So today we are introducing a new feature we are truly excited about: Voice Messages.

WhatsApp is a free app in the App Store, but users have to pay $0.99 to continue after their first year of use. With an already massive userbase that leads the cross platform messaging market, WhatsApp should pick up even more users after implementing this feature.

You can get a sense of how the new voice messages work by viewing the video up top.
