Apple Recruited AMD Employees For Orlando GPU Design Center

Following a report earlier this week that found Apple had been hiring a number of former AMD employees to work in its Orlando offices, MacRumors has discovered that these employees were actively recruited by Apple.

Apple reportedly recruited active AMD employees from their LinkedIn pages, the majority of which were recruited back in January. Apple is said to have primarily targeted employees in the Orlando area as that is the location in which the majority of AMD’s 3D graphics patents were issued.

Originally, it was assumed that these employees were let go by AMD in a mass round of layoffs before later being picked up by Apple.

Apple hired more than 20 employees from AMD, all of which are now working in Apple’s temporary office space in Orlando as they wait for a permanent Apple office has yet to be established there. Apple reportedly plans to build the office’s GPU team to over 40 employees.

Apple seems to be looking to bring in-house and beef up its 3D graphics efforts with all these hirings. Hopefully we’re able to see the fruits of these efforts in the company’s upcoming products.
