We all get tired doing the same things day in, day out, and today seems to be the day Andy Rubin has decided it’s time to try out something new. Andy Rubin will no longer be managing Android at Google.
In a blog post published by Larry Page, the Google CEO announced that there’s a leadership swap underway:
Having exceeded even the crazy ambitious goals we dreamed of for Android—and with a really strong leadership team in place—Andy’s decided it’s time to hand over the reins and start a new chapter at Google. Andy, more moonshots please!
Going forward, Sundar Pichai will lead Android, in addition to his existing work with Chrome and Apps. Sundar has a talent for creating products that are technically excellent yet easy to use—and he loves a big bet.
Things are about to get interesting with Android. There’s not much chatter about what will change, if anything, but it’s probably a safe bet to assume Android could be heading in a slightly new direction. The move is quite similar to Apple, where Craig Federighi is in charge of both iOS and OS X, Sundar Pichai will be in charge of Chrome, Android, and Apps at Google.
