Microsoft Trying Hard To Kill Off Second-Hand Games With New Xbox

There are two weeks left until the next PlayStation arrives, but we’re starting to hear more and more about the future of Xbox. Microsoft’s new console will require an Internet connection to function with activation codes for games on 50GB-capacity Blu-ray Discs. It’s likely that purchased games will not be able to be resold and will have no value beyond the first user.

Microsoft’s Blu-ray plans and anti-used game system has been previously rumored, and the activation system that requires an online connection looks like a pretty effective way to prevent pirating in the future for Xbox consoles.

The next Xbox will also reportedly feature an AMD eight-core x64 1.6GHz CPU, a D3D11.x 800MHz graphics solution and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. The console’s actual hard drive capacity is undecided, but Microsoft’s extended commitment to online delivery suggests that it could be the biggest unit put inside a console yet.

Microsoft is expected to fully reveal the details of the next-generation Xbox at E3 this summer, with an expected release date for later this year.
