Research In Motion To Now Be Known As BlackBerry

At Wednesday’s BlackBerry 10 event hosted by the Canadian company Research in Motion, RIM decided to take a significant step to help try to halt the company’s recent and steady decline in public opinion. The mobile company has decided to change their company name from RIM to the more simple and iconic BlackBerry.

CEO Thorsten Heins commented on the name change. “We have reinvented the company, and we want to show that in our brand. One brand. One promise. Our customers use BlackBerry, our employees work for BlackBerry, and our shareholders are owners of BlackBerry. From today on, we are BlackBerry everywhere in the world.”

Although the name BlackBerry doesn’t sound quite as luxurious as the previous Research in Motion moniker, hopefully the quality of their new product lineup will be able to make up for the loss. BlackBerry, as the 1984 startup will hence be called, will now now be traded as BBRY on the Nasdaq and BB on TSX.
