David Bowie turns 66 today and he’s celebrating his birthday by making his newest album available for pre-order on iTunes. The Next Day is Bowie’s first record in ten years and if you pre-order it through iTunes you’ll get an early bonus track.
The Next Day is set for release on March 12, but if you download it now you can get “Where Are We Now?” right away. The track is priced at $1.29 so you’ll be charged for it when you download it. You’ll be charged for the rest of the album when it becomes available.
On March 12 you can get The Next Day as a regular version with 14 tracks for $11.99 or the deluxe version with 17 tracks for $13.99.
It’s interesting that in 2002 Bowie predicted that record labels and copyright wouldn’t exist in 2012 and that music would be available “like running water or electricity.” His predictions didn’t quite come true, but with services like Spotify and Rdio that have huge music databases it makes accessing music much more easy and accessible, kind of like running water.
