Apple reviews all apps submitted to both the Mac App Store and the iOS App Store, but lately developers are seeing frustratingly long wait times to have their apps approved on the Mac App Store. According to Shiny Development, Mac app approvals have seen wait times of 27 days over the past month, compared to just 7 days for iOS App Store approvals.
Shiny Development hosts a website called Average App Store Review Times and collects data from developers who tweet about how long it took for Apple to review their apps. Based on 70 reports, the site found wait times for Mac App Store approval close to 27 days over the past month, and trends indicate this is only slowing down more instead of speeding up.
Some are blaming the delay in Mac App Store app approvals on iOS 6 and the iPhone 5. With so many apps being resubmitted to fit the larger screen and take advantage of the Retina display of the iPhone 5, Apple is said to have moved Mac app staff over to the iOS team in order to help process the apps submitted for iOS 6 approval.
Unlike iOS apps, Mac apps can still be purchased through any web portal, but if developers decide to wait for Mac App Store approval then they have no choice but to wait for Apple’s approval, however long it takes.
