A number of Apple’s authorized resellers, like Sprint, have begun dropping prices on the current iPhone 4/4S ahead of the next-generation iPhone’s expected September release. Even Apple Retail Stores have begun matching the discounted prices when asked in-store. Now, Target and Best Buy have jumped on the bandwagon.
Target is now selling the 16GB version of the AT&T and Verizon iPhone 4S for $179 with contract, while Best Buy has lowered the price of the 8GB iPhone 4 for both carriers from $99 to $49.99.
Sprint was the first iPhone carrier to begin lowering prices ahead of the release of the next-generation iPhone by cutting the price of the 16GB iPhone 4S models to $149 and waiving activation fees for the device. Not long after, Apple began quietly agreeing to drop prices to match other carriers.
Rumor has it that Apple is going to announce the next-generation iPhone at an event on September 12, with an expected release date of September 21.
