Thunderbolt Software Update 1.2.1 (Probably) Won’t Brick Your Computer

Thunderbolt

So after Apple released Thunderbolt Software Update 1.2, all hell broke loose. Turns out, it prevented many Macs with the patch installed from being able to boot up. Apple was pretty quick to pull the update from the software updater, but that still left many with a need to reinstall their OS. Sadly, that also meant that the dongle remained a useless hunk of plastic and metal for us all.

Late yesterday, Apple posted a fixed version of the Thunderbolt Software Update with the version 1.2.1. This update’s release notes read “Adds support for the Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter,” but perhaps they should have added “Fo’ realzies this time” to the end.

If you’ve been waiting patiently for your Ethernet dongle to be functional, rejoice. For those of you with non-functioning computers, well, tough luck. Enjoy that reinstallation.
