According to DigiTimes, sources “up the supply chain” have released information on Amazon releasing two new tablets, one with an 8.9-inch display and another with a 10.1-inch display. We can also expect these tablets to feature higher resolution screens, faster CPUs and more RAM. These tablets would be released under the ‘Kindle Fire’ name and will likely go on sale either late this year or in early 2013.
Amazon is also rumored to drop the $200 7-inch Kindle Fire’s price tag by $50 to make way for the new tablets, kind of like what Apple has done with the iPad 2. The $150 price tag would be quite attractive to users and will help Amazon clear out the remaining stock of current generation Kindle Fires before the next generation lineup arrives.
Amazon is also expected to update their line of standard eBook readers before the holiday season. This line currently includes the Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard and Kindle DX. As a Kindle user myself, I would like to see Amazon slim down the lineup into one touch-based Kindle with 3G connectivity standard. This would highly benefit the consumer as there is less “noise” in the Kindle product line.
