More Retina Display Evidence Found In Mountain Lion Developer Build

Retina here, Retina there, Retina in the new MacBook too according to new evidence found in the Mountain Lion preview. Chris Foresman over at Ars Technica has stumbled across more evidence that Mountain Lion Macs and Cinema Displays could be going Retina:

One example comes from Messages, Apple’s replacement for iChat. While using the app under the second developer preview of Mountain Lion, some icons are erroneously displaying 2x resolution art. In the image below, the “audio chat” icon is a 2x version instead of the standard 1x version

Apple’s already broken the web with the new iPad’s Retina display, so they might as well break it for the rest of us Mac owners. I say that in jest though, because the Retina display is worth upgrading the web for at this point. The clarity is phenomenal, and we’re super excited about the prospect of a Retina Monitor. That being said, going Retina on iOS devices is a lot easier than trying to force the web to Retina resolutions. Apple’s app ecosystem almost guarantees that the apps will go Retina, and the consumers will see glorious resolutions and images in app. Convincing the web on a whole to get Retina, and all app developers outside of the Mac App Store to do the same, is going to be a lot more difficult than convincing iOS app developers.

It’s the price of progress, and at this point, it’s a price I’m willing to pay.
