Bioware has been extremely good to iOS users this past week. Accompanying the launch of Mass Effect 3 on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, a $6.99 USD iOS game called Mass Effect Infiltrator came out to fantastic reviews as compared to their last attempt at a tie-in game. As of last night, a new iOS companion app has been released as well: Mass Effect Datapad.

This app offers a ton of really neat features for people playing Mass Effect 3 that really make the experience better. For example, as you talk to allies as you complete quests, you will receive messages from them in the app. The best part is that all you have to do is sign into your Origin account, and it syncs up to your in-game progress automatically from there.

The app shows off screenshots, trailers, and a live Twitter feed as well, but that is only the surface. It has a voiced codex with all of the important information from the game. If you need a refresher on who Stephen Hackett or Tali’Zorah Vas Normandy is, you can do it on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.

Most importantly for Mass Effect 3 players, this app shows a live map of how ready you are to take on the Reapers — the main villains of the franchise. From the map, you have the ability to deploy fleets to help improve your galactic readiness. This is a huge help for people trying to work hard for a successful ending to such an astounding trilogy.

One more thing: it’s free. This app and all of its features are completely free. Jump in, get some messages from your pals, get the galaxy ready for attack, and start warp bombing some of those damn Reapers!
