OS X beta hints that Apple may be upgrading the Mac Pro after all

If you’re holding out for a new Mac Pro, despite rumors that the model could be de-commissioned, there’s some new evidence that Apple could still be planning on releasing an update in the near future. Hacking through a beta version of OS X 10.7.3 has revealed that Apple has been working on integrating AMD’s upcoming Radeon HD 7000, code named ‘Tahiti’, into OS X. The findings, uncovered by Netkas, has renewed hope that the Mac Pro may not be abandoned after all. The Mac Pro hasn’t been given an update since early 2010, and is well overdue for a heart-transplant.

Sure, it’s grasping at straws at this point, but rumors of a new video card in the Mac Pro is enough evidence for some professionals to take note. Here’s hoping 2012 is the year the Apple finally updates the Mac Pro, and that it’s not the year that Apple sends the computer out to pasture.
