PopCap goes cinematic with new game series Popcorn Dragon

God help us all. PopCap, the king of addictive timewasters, including Plants vs. Zombies, Bejewelled and Peggle, has revealed its latest new franchise, Popcorn Dragon. Yes, Popcorn Dragon — you read that correctly.

Planned for iOS, you control a cutesy flying dragon whose job it is to roast popcorn before a pesky bird eats it. (No, not an Angry Bird — just a standard hungry one). As with all PopCap games, score multipliers come thick and fast and power-ups and hazards are thrown at the player to keep things interesting. Each level seems to be themed around iconic movies (screenshots show King Kong and The Great Escape as inspiration), which feeds into the theme of popcorn. It’s unlikely to have the same appeal as the developer’s big games, but any new PopCap game should be treated with caution.

It’s due on the App Store before the year is out and obviously we’ll share more on its price and date when information is made available.
