Apple looking to provide iCal meeting alerts based on your location

We can all pretty much agree that iOS notifications are pretty useless in their current state. But, rest assured, Apple seems to be working on ways to get them to provide more utility. According to a new patent dug up by AppleInsider, Apple is working on dynamic alerts for calendar events.

These alerts would be able to determine travel time from your current location to a calendar event in iCal, and provide you with an alert telling you to bust-a-move before you’re late for that oh so important meeting across town.

The patent also points out that the alert could determine travel time based on historical traffic conditions, and then provide you information on the best route to take to your appointment.

For this to work properly you would likely have to make sure that you’re inputting all of the meeting data in iCal, including things like addresses. Currently I don’t fill out my meeting information. iCal consists of titles and times only for me. But, this new and approved notification and alert system could very much change that for me.

It pains me to say this, but I’m going to anyway: I’m late to appointments pretty often.
