SFGate now available on iPad

The San Francisco Chronicle (SFGate.com) is not the first and will not be the last, but it is the latest newspaper to release an iPad application.

The iPad app takes newspaper viewing to the next level. The app has a standard newspaper feel to it, yet it utilizes the iPad technology to give users live updates to articles in order to give them the most current information.

The app also gives you access to the last seven days worth of archives. This is good in case you aren’t able to read an edition in a single day. The app does have advertisements, but you would also get this in the physical newspapers too.

The app is available for free, but requires either a $5.99 monthly subscription or a $59.99 yearly subscription. If you’re unsure if you would use the application all the time, you’re able to try out the app for 30-days for free.

There is one thing that does bother me, and this may just be my own naiveté regarding how iOS subscriptions work, but you cannot cancel a subscription except within 24-hours of the automatic renewal date for your subscription. This is a pretty small window and could cause people some grief. This app could be good way to get information about San Francisco, particularly if you live somewhere where you can’t get the paper version.
