Instagram to launch API

Instagram, the popular photo-editing and sharing social network is getting ready to expand, according to a blog post on the company’s website.

Instagram is announcing a new API for developers that will allow more applications to interact with the service.

While it is still unclear if Mac or Android users are going to get to interact with the service, it is also unclear if other photo apps on iOS will be able to talk to Instagram, either.

Whatever it means, an API is a huge step for the service, which previously was very closed and limited. Currently, the app will let users upload photos to Instagr.am, Flickr, Tumblr and few other select services.
