Crank up the noise, and be cool

If you’re worried about your Mac running a little too warm for your lap, there is, as they say, an app for that. smcFanControl is a tiny little app that sits in your menubar that displays the temperature of your Mac and how fast the fans are moving. Better yet, it allows you to create different heat profiles that change the minimum RPM of the fans.

Remember, when you crank up the fans, the noise level rises quite a bit. If you’re worried that your mics might pick up noise, this is not recommended for you. However, it will lower the operating temperature of your Mac quite a bit. Also, you don’t have to worry about your computer overheating because of this app. It won’t let you drop the minimum level too low. Computers are pretty smart about not letting users screw them up physically.

If you don’t mind a little noise, this wonderful tiny app will make your lap a whole lot cooler for a grand total of $0.00. Nice, huh? If you’re interested in more “Applets” like this, let me know in the comment section. I have a million of ’em.
