Bloomingdales to offer iPad with $1500 purchase

Apple is always a popular brand to be associated with, and this holiday season we’ve seen T. J. Maxx blowing out iPads at a discount price just to get people in the door. Now Bloomingdales is offering a special deal involving iPads, as revealed in a full page ad in the Sunday edition of the New York Times.

Shoppers that spend $1500 next weekend at the flagship Manhattan store in the Y.E.S. Contemporary Sportswear department will receive a free iPad along with their purchase. According to the ad:

A seriously special opportunity, next weekend only — take home a free iPad with almost any $1500 purchase in Y.E.S. One each, while they last. And hurry — supplies are definitely limited.

So considering the iPad is $499, you’re really getting 33% off your purchase. Wow, what a great deal! (Note the sarcasm carefully, folks.) Looking at the ad, the beautiful ensemble depicted is $195 for the sweater, $185 for the plaid shirt, and $225 for the jeans. That’s $605 right there, so really, it’s not a stretch to be spending $1500… on clothes.

Of course, offering free Apple stuff almost guarantees that people will report on it and give Bloomingdales free publicity, which I’ve just done here, haven’t I? Whoops. You got me there, clever marketing agency.

So in case you’ve been wondering what to do with that $1500 that’s just lying around, and you don’t feel like buying a MacBook Air or something, you can go to Bloomingdales this weekend and get some nice threads and a free iPad too. Just get there early.
