Former Dixons CEO John Browett joins Apple as SVP of Retail

Yesterday Apple announced that it has hired John Browett, former CEO at European Technology Retailer Dixons, as the company’s new Senior Vice President of Retail. Prior to Dixons, Browett served as CEO of Tesco.com. He holds a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and an MBA from UPenn’s Wharton Business School.

Our retail stores are all about customer service, and John shares that commitment like no one else we’ve met,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his incredible retail experience to Apple.

As Browett takes over from former retail SVP Ron Johnson, who has recently left Apple to become CEO of JC Penney after 10 years of leading the formation of the company’s retail business, he will be taking up the task of increasing Apple’s focus in retail operations overseas. That might even include further expansion into China’s mobile space.  Browett, who will step down from Dixons on February 20 and leave the company on April 20, will begin his duties with Apple in Q2.
