Coverstream 1.1: Browse your albums outside of iTunes.

Sometimes I like to download music I’ve never heard of (Creative Commons of course ;) ) and sometimes after I started loading an album into iTunes I realized that I had it already. Now that doesn’t say so much about the band, but it does say quite a bit about viewing your albums from anywhere on your mac. Now, most of you probably don’t agree with me, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to get your data from where ever you want to and how you want to…right scoble? ;) So why not get an app that’s sole responsibility is to give you access to your albums straight from your desktop in a coverflow based design without opening up your iTunes? I mean afterall some of us just enjoy looking at album artwork. Since I was young I’d get really odd satisfaction from looking through my albums and admiring some of the artwork. Coverstream gives you that ability, and now that I think about it
I’m not sure how much I’d actually use this program because for me iTunes is always open and I’m constantly listening to music. I do mean constantly, any time I’m at my desk…music is on. So I don’t really see myself jumping to another application to view my albums. Now before you get all pissed at me, Coverstream does have other functionality that makes it a little more useful. Essentially, it’s an iTunes front end that lets you play, pause and change your tracks. I have to say, that this layout is a lot more slimmed down and a little more like a widget and less like iTunes. I really like the layout and the other options it gives you like putting album art of your currently playing track in the dock. Now, it’s not free and it’s 14.95. I’m not sure how much I’d be willing to play for a glorified theme/plugin but it’s pretty cool none the less.

Update: I’m getting a funny little error on my laptop when I try to run this application. It worked fine on my mac pro, but this G4 Ibook isn’t handling it all that well… Now normally I’d chalk it up to the G4, but the error has nothing to so with that. It says I need leopard. lol. I AM RUNNING LEOPARD.
