Rumor Mongering: 8-Pin Dock Connector And Bluetooth 4 On iOS 6
Everyone is a-buzz with what Apple might do next with their dock connector. For about a decade now, we have had the same 30-pin dock connector for iPods, iPhones, and iPads. Now, we're hearing of an 8-pin connector coming out of Cupertino. Jeremy Horwitz, iLounge: [quote]According to two sources, Apple’s new Dock Connector features only 8 pins, seemingly contradicting claims of “16-pin” and “19-pin” connectors. Although the original Dock Connector contained 30 pins, reports of 16- or 19-pin connectors seemed hard to square with the port’s small size and Apple’s actual ... more

Huzzah: Apple Removes Vague Unreleased Product References In Plist Files
Apple's removed key file information from plist files in the latest beta version of iOS, and frankly, we can't help but laugh really, really loudly. In the past, bloggers would dive into these .plist files looking for vague and rumor-worthy mentions of future products like iPhone 6,1, or Apple TV 3,1, which they would then turn into a rumor post at some point. As of today, these .plist key tags are filled with information like "Unknown Hardware - Apple Mobile Device", and "unknownHardware." Long story short, Apple doubled ... more

Apple's last resort, etc. The affable and insightful Harry McCracken of Time takes a good, long look at the history of this rumor that refuses to die in a retrospect that spans five years and reviews ... more

Leaked images of iPad 3 weight gain, bigger back panel, and lens
If you haven't heard by now, the iPad 3 is likely coming within the next two weeks, and that usually means leaked images will be popping up like a bad rash. Chinese tech blog M.I.C.gadget has published such an image. The photos focus on the back shell of the alledged new device. As you can easily deduce from the image, the iPad 3 could indeed be thicker than its predecessor, and it may have more of a tapered style. Just think of it as an iPad 2 that managed to eat too much ... more
