iOS-ification of Lion continues: Apple ports iOS AirPort Utility to Lion
Apple has released a new iOS-like AirPort Utility for Lion today. It's not an upgrade to the current OS X AirPort utility that you've grown to love either. Nope, it seems that Apple has released both a port for the iOS application for OS X and an update to the normal Lion utility. As of now there are two versions of AirPort Utility. Version 5.6 is a slight update to the AirPort that we've all grown accustomed to in OS X, and Version 6.0 is the edition that looks exactly ... more

New Lion 10.7.3 beta seeds to developers
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 is on the way! If you're a registered Mac Developer on Apple's development site, you can now download the latest beta (Build 11D46) of Lion 10.7.3.
This build focuses on iCloud document storage, Address Book, iCal, Mail, Spotlight and Safari.
Snow Leopard launched August 28th, 2009, and it didn't see its .3 release until March 29th, 2010. Lion shipped to consumers on July 20th, 2011. If we see 10.7.3 launch in February, it will be a similar seven month window. Hopefully, we'll see better iOS ... more

Did you know this particular ribbon is a button?
I've spent my fair share of time railing on Lion these last couple of months. Heck, it even sparked someone to call me part of a "corrupt Apple press." But here's the thing: no matter how much time passes, and how many times I find something neat in Lion, I still grumble when I realize just how many bugs and design problems remain in it currently. I'm not a graphic designer by any stretch of the imagination, but I know what I like. What I don't like is OS X ... more

OS X Lion sees relatively little adoption so far
Apple's "most advanced" operating system, OS X 10.7, which is better known as Lion, saw great numbers on release day but has since settled into a very small part of OS traffic share with less than 1.5 percent of the pie. When released in July of this year, OS X Lion saw a million downloads in a single day (Apple made the OS exclusively available through the Mac App Store, so downloading was the only way to get it). A promising start, to be sure, but the kitty tired out pretty ... more

Quick Tip: Locking your desktop with your screen saver
Okay, what gives? I just spent the last five minutes trying to remember how to get my screen saver to lock my desktop in Lion (OS X 10.7). It's usually on by default, but obviously in some drunken induced stupidness I turned it off. Here's how you turn it on: Instead of hitting up the Desktop & Screen Saver section in your System Preferences, head directly to the Security & Privacy section instead. It seems like Captain Obvious-like stuff here, but if I can't remember how to do it, there's probably ... more

SketchBook Pro now has full iCloud support — Mac, iPad, iPhone/iPod touch
With today's update from Autodesk, the OS X version of SketchBook Pro now supports iCloud, joining its iOS counterparts. The trifecta of accessibility — Mac, iPad, iPhone/iPod touch — has finally begun. Draw and save on your iPad, and SBP syncs to iCloud. Minutes (or sometimes seconds) later, you can open up your SBP project — layers and all — on your laptop, desktop, or iPhone and continue working. The iCloud syncing system is going to make it so much easier for people to work on ... more

Quick Look websites in Mail.app before opening them
Did you know that you can preview a link in Mail.app before actually clicking on it? Me neither. Today I stumbled on the fact that Quick Look is built into Mail.app links. When in an email, you can hover over a text link, and an icon appears that, if clicked, will launch a preview of the website you would be visiting without actually requiring you to visit it. It's a great way to to see if you're going to be sent to a new level of phishing-hell or if you're ... more

Quicksilver is now Lion compatible
Quicksilver is back from the dead and is now Lion friendly. Patrick Robertson, Rob McBroom, and Etienne Samson have teamed up to release ß61, a version that is both compatible with Lion and comes with 40 new additions, fixes, and changes. Quicksilver has also added auto-plugins that will update themselves when the application is running, which is pretty awesome. Other patches include: Quicksilver is now 10.6+ (Snow Leopard and above) only Fixed the Trigger (null) bug where Objects were not saved to the Catalog Closing the command window in the Preferences>Triggers pane no longer ... more

OS X 10.7.2 released
To compliment the arrival of iOS 5 and to get your Mac ready to rock with iCloud, OS X 10.7.2 has been released. OS X 10.7, also known as Lion, has received its second point update since its release in July this year. The most significant change with the 10.7.2 update is the integration of iCloud compatibility. As mentioned many times before, iCloud is an online storage system that allows users to access transparent "cloud-based" backups of their music, photos and files, thus sharing them with any and all iCloud-ready ... more

Apple readying 10.7.2, releases new seeds to developers
It's coming, and hopefully it fixes a lot of those nagging Lion bugs we've been hearing about these days. Apple has just released a new 10.7.2 beta seed to developers. The seed, listed as 11C62, weighs in at a hefty 790MB, which is a huge update when compared to the 79.29 MB worth of updates that shipped in 10.7.1. Many suspect that the new 10.7.2 will not only bring with it the patches that Lion currently needs, but also tighter iCloud integration. We're not installing beta software anymore, but from ... more
