A new report out of CNET claims that Apple is finally gearing up for the launch of its rumored Retina display iPad mini, and that mass production of the device is set to begin in either June or July. NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim says that the device's display will pack a resolution of 2,048x1,536 for a PPI (pixels per inch) that is roughly equivalent to what we currently have on the iPhone 5, which has a PPI of 326. A few weeks ago it was reported that Apple could release the Retina iPad mini in the third quarter of 2013. Apple's tablet dominance won't diminish any time soon, as 47% of future tablet owners plan to purchase some type of iPad. This information comes out of Yankee Group, which conducted a survey of future tablet buyers. The survey consisted of results from 506 individuals who do not yet own tablet devices. From the survey, 47% planned to purchase an iPad, iPad 2 or iPad mini while 23% weren't sure. A Chinese tech blog has reported (English translation via BrightWire) that Retina displays for the next generation iPad mini are already in production. The publication is citing sources within AU Optronics, the company which, alongside LG, produces displays for the current generation iPad. The displays reportedly feature a resolution of 2048x1536 with a pixel density of 324 pixels-per-inch. Jeff Weiner, the CEO of LinkedIn, has just given all LinkedIn employees a completely free iPad mini. The company currently has 3,500 employees, each of who were given a 32GB iPad mini, which retails for $429. If all of these iPads were purchased at face value, LinkedIn spent over $1.5 million on iPads for its employees.
