Apple To Introduce An Updated 3rd Generation iPad Alongside Wi-Fi Only iPad Mini?
Apple will soon be sending out press invites to an event focused on their latest product: the mythical iPad mini. However, according to the Guardian, Apple may also be releasing a slightly updated version of their third-generation iPad. If this rumor is true, we'll see an updated third-generation iPad with international 4G compatibility and the possibility of a Lightning connector. What else has the Guardian supposedly uncovered? Their sources have also said that the iPad mini will not support 3G/4G cellular networks and will be available in a Wi-Fi variant. This ... more

Apple's A5X Graphics Power Kicks Tegra 3's Rump
The fine folks at IGN have put together some benchmark tests comparing the new iPad's A5X processing chip with the NVIDIA Tegra 3. The findings indicate that while the A5X falls below both the iPad 2 and Tegra 3-powered ASUS Transformer Prime in processing speed, the A5X did in fact perform better when it came to graphics processing. Scott Lowe at IGN: [quote]As you can see, when freed from the binds of the new iPad's staggeringly high-resolution display, the A5X was able to generate 15,412 frames at a rate of ... more

Apple could sell 12 million iPads… this quarter
By now, everyone's heard the numbers: three million new iPads sold in the opening weekend, an extraordinary number. But if speculation is correct, the best might be right around the corner. As 24 countries eagerly anticipate the new iPad being released this coming Friday, reports from UBS analyst Maynard Um suggest that Apple could sell 12 million new iPads between launch and the end of the quarter. And those figures only count the new iPad, and not sales of the discounted iPad 2. That's 9 million more new iPads ... more

The downside to the Retina display
With four times the number of pixels as its predecessor, the new iPad will hit the market tomorrow with a huge bang. Crisp graphics and even clearer text are the main pull of this upgrade. Unfortunately, there is a downfall, and that comes in the form of increased application sizes. The Verge reported that app sizes have increased by around 2.5-3 times on average, to nearly 6 times for iMovie. And remember, these are only the download sizes, and don't reflect the installed application sizes. There's also the issue of ... more

The Apple Takeover Isn't Coming. It's Already Here
Immediately after getting hired by Macgasm last week, I decided to take a vacation. You know, to celebrate and all that. I took a 4-day excursion to Chicago, playing tourist and visiting some of the museums and attractions that the city had to offer. I decided early on that my iPhone would be my only device; no DSLR, no laptop, just my phone. First of all, having spent my entire life in a metro of 100,000 people, I've never required a GPS or anything to get around. A simple "hey, how ... more

Benchmarks for the new iPad are starting to roll in from across the web
Specifications from the new iPad are beginning to roll in from around the globe, the first of which is from Vietnamese based website Tinh.te. The benchmarks have shown that the new iPad (iPad 3) has 1 GB of RAM, and a CPU that runs at the same speed as the iPad 2, despite having a new chip named the A5X. The new iPad now doubles the RAM spec of the iPhone 4S, which is pretty amazing considering just how snappy the iPhone currently is with only 512 MB of ... more

Will the iPad 2's $100 price cut affect the tablet industry?
Today Apple announced 'the new iPad' – yes, that's its name. With it came five new features and upgrades. One, a Retina display with a higher resolution than your HDTV. Two, an A5X chip. Three, a brand new 5 megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p video. Four, voice dictation (a touch of Siri). Five, 4G LTE compatibility. Not ... more

Epic Games teases Infinity Blade: Dungeons
Epic Games has just unveiled a teaser trailer for its upcoming game Infinity Blade: Dungeons. The company had gotten some stage time during today’s Apple keynote, showcasing the graphics capabilities of the 3rd generation iPad. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rp-TTtpU0I] The game will serve as a prequel to the two existing Infinity Blade games, but with a different gaming style. Instead of a round-based fighting system, this will be more of a dungeons crawler, like the critically acclaimed Torchlight by Runic Games. There’s no word yet on the story of the game, the ... more

Apple increases over-the-air App Store download limit to 50MB
Today, with the introduction of the 3rd generation iPad, Apple has increased the file size that can be downloaded over 3G or 4G networks from 20 MB to 50 MB. Before if you wanted to download an app that was larger than 20 MB, you had to do so while connected to a Wi-Fi network. It is logical that Apple did this so its customers can download apps optimised for the new iPad, as these apps are larger in file size because of the increased resolution of the picture resources. This ... more

The 3rd generation iPad — implications for gamers
A few hours ago Apple introduced the new iPad. Among all the improvements the device offers (check out our coverage here), the Retina display and the A5X processor have the biggest implications for gamers, game publishers and gaming hardware producers. The iPad now sports a display with 2048 X 1536px resolution, which is higher than what people commonly call “full HD”, meaning 1920 X 1080px resolution. Combine that with the size of the display itself (9.7”-inch diagonally), and you get a device with a 264 ppi (pixels per ... more

Interview With Realmac Software’s Dan Counsell

I’ve had a long relationship with Realmac Software, and their applications. The first time I came across one of their products with Little Snapper, which I’m pretty sure showed up in my email because of a MacHeist bundle I had purchased early on in my Mac life. Since then, I’ve
