Tom Hogarty, Adobe's group product manager for Lightroom, recently demonstrated an early version of a Lightroom-style photo editing app for iOS on Scott Kelby's online show "The Grid." The app, which will use cloud syncing, will be able to edit RAW images that are stored on a computer from a mobile device. Hogarty wasn't specific about launch dates, but did say that the app is in the process of being developed. He also discussed a list of editing controls that the prototype software has already, including exposure, contrast, highlights, ... more

Apple Responds To Australian Accusations Of Pricing Schemes At Pricing Inquiry
Last year the Australian House of Representatives started investigating whether or not some products are more expensive in Australia than other parts of the world. In February of this year, Apple, Microsoft and Adobe were called in by the Australian Parliament for questioning on pricing levels. Apple has officially responded to these inquiries at today's scheduled pricing inquiry. Australian customers see software and digital content prices that have been inflated by more than 70% compared to pricing in the U.S. During the Australian Parliamentary pricing inquiry, Apple's Vice President for Australia, ... more

Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch Decides To Leave Company, Join Apple
CNBC just passed a nice little nugget of information along in a tweet, indicating that Adobe's CTO, Kevin Lynch, is leaving the company to join Apple. The move is surprising on a number of fronts. Lynch has been working at Adobe since the company acquired Macromedia (Flash, Dreamweaver, yadda yadda) back in 2005. CNBC is reporting that the move will happen this week, but there's no word on what he'll be doing at Apple. Here are the tweets from CNBC journalist Jon Fortt, and the official CNBC announcement:

Apple, Microsoft, Adobe Called In By Australian Parliament Over Product Pricing Schemes
Consumers in Australia have often complained of being charged higher prices for smartphones, computers and other tech stuff than in other countries. In July of last year, the House of Representatives launched a probe to see if some goods really were more expensive in Australia than other parts of the world. As a result, Apple, Microsoft and Adobe have all been called in by the Australian Parliament for questioning on pricing levels. The three companies are set to appear before the committee on March 22 of this year. Ed Husic, a ... more

Adobe To Announce Retina-Ready Photoshop CS6 On December 11?
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NaTV3FlCxQ] On their website announcing the company's upcoming "Create Now Live" webinar event, Adobe also posted a video that shows a MacBook Pro with Retina display running Photoshop CS6, which suggests the photo editing software could be getting support for the high-resolution Retina display. The video shows some close-ups on buttons and other items that seem to look like Retina-quality graphics, which would suggest its announcement is all the more likely. A number of other features were also highlighted in the video. "Create Now Live" will be a live streamed ... more

Is Apple Researching Its Own Photo Editing Software?
When you've got such a large designer following, it kinda makes sense that you would be looking into providing your audience with the best tools they can get their hands on. It seems like Apple's been kicking around the idea of releasing competing products to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. A new patent, published today, shows that Apple worked on some ideas for changing brush size and brush color. From Patently Apple: [quote]By allowing a user to change an input tool property using an input gesture that may be independent of any ... more

Plan On Waiting 48 Hours If You Purchase Photoshop Through Creative Cloud
We're skittish when it comes to "leasing" software from major companies. But, when a company like Adobe comes along and announces that they're going to be allowing customers to purchase a subscription plan for their popular applications, you would think that they'd have the process on lockdown before going public and allowing customers to purchase a new Creative Cloud plan. Yeah, not so fast. Pat Dryburgh found out the hard way that Adobe could use some help with processing their payments when he purchased Adobe's $19.99/month Creative Cloud plan for ... more

Interview With Realmac Software’s Dan Counsell

I’ve had a long relationship with Realmac Software, and their applications. The first time I came across one of their products with Little Snapper, which I’m pretty sure showed up in my email because of a MacHeist bundle I had purchased early on in my Mac life. Since then, I’ve
