Andrew Aurenheimer, better known as "Weev" in the hacking world, has been placed in solitary confinement. The man was placed in the segregated part of the prison for "investigative purposes" due the to fact that he was tweeting from prison. His tweets were sent via a prison email account and later relayed to his Twitter account by a third party. The account has not been updated since the 8th of April. Aurenheimer sent snail mail to the Daily Bot explaining the situation. -
Apple wants Google to hand over documents relating to Android that will help it in its case against Samsung. Apple, which is in a patent-infringement lawsuit with Samsung, claims that Android "provides much of the accused functionality" of Samsung's infringing products and that doing a thorough search of these documents is essential to proving Samsung is intentionally infringing on its patents. Apple has been ordered by a court in China to pay three Chinese writers as compensation for infringing on their copyright after making their books available on the App Store without first asking permission. The books were reportedly uploaded by a third party and sold without proceeds going to the authors or their publishers. While Apple didn't publish the books itself, the company is still being held responsible because it didn't follow current laws and ask permission to publish the books from the original authors. Google has been slapped with a fine of 145,000 Euros, about $189,000, for violating "one of the biggest data protection rules" known in Germany. The violation? In an effort to end the year and a half long EU antitrust investigation involving Apple and a number of large publishers, Pearson's Penguin unit has offered to the European Commission to end its e-book deal with Apple that placed price restrictions on Amazon and other retailers. If the European Commission accepts the offer it would make Penguin the fifth and final book publisher to settle with regulators, effectively ending the 16-month long investigation without fining or finding any wrongdoing. David Miller, a securities trader at Rochdale Securities, has pleaded guilty to fraud after buying $1 billion of Apple stock without permission, which ultimately resulted in bringing down the company he worked for at the time. Miller bought 1.625 million shares on the day that Apple reported its third-quarter results in October 2012, hoping he would be able to make a profit when the share price rose. Apple has been involved in yet another lawsuit where the company was accused of not honoring warranties on iPhones and iPod touches. Now Apple is reportedly agreeing to pay $53 million to settle the iPhone water damage warranty lawsuit. The settlement is intended to reimburse potentially hundreds of thousands of iPhone and iPod touch consumers who were refused service by Apple. Apple was unwilling to repair or replace their faulty phones under the one-year standard, or two-year extended warranty. Following Apple's recent decision to pull the popular app discovery tool AppGratis from its App Store, France's junior minister for digital economy Fleur Pellerin visited iMediaApp, the publishers of AppGratis, to discuss the situation.
