A major lawsuit was recently settled between Capitol Records and music start-up ReDigi, a platform for users to buy and sell "used" digital music that was bought from iTunes. Capitol Records sued ReDigi over copyright violations, and a U.S. District Judge ruled that ReDigi is not authorized to allow users to resell their digital content. ReDigi's argument held that "first-sale doctrine" should apply to digital purchases, not just physical ones, which means that you are able to sell legally purchased books or CDs to other parties. Andrew Auernheimer, better known as "Weev" in the web security world, was just sentenced to 41 months in prison for discovering and exploiting an AT&T security flaw. Auernheimer was convicted of identity fraud and a count of conspiracy. He was given nearly three-and-a-half years in prison for the "crime" and will be required to pay AT&T $73,000 in restitution payments. Seven Apple Stores in France have been caught violating a French law that prohibits employees from working after hours. Apple has been given a fine and the violating stores have been banned from making their employees work late anymore. Following complaints from labor unions, a court in Paris fined Apple 10,000 euros, about $13,000, in damages to the worker's union.
