Apple Releases Pictures Of iOS 7 Running On iPad, iPad Mini
Posted by on . No responses
It isn't a lot, but we can now see an actual image of what iOS 7 will look like on the iPad when the beta is eventually released. While it can be summed up to "it looks the same as on iPhone," it's nice to see just how the vastly redesigned OS will look on the bigger screen, as well as how the music app will look. Looking at the pictures, I expect that iOS 7's 3D parallax effect, the effect that adds depth to the icons and background when tilting the phone, will look even more impressive on the bigger ... more

Microsoft Hires Siri For New Commercial That Makes Fun Of iPad
Posted by on . No responses
If you thought your personal assistant Siri held some kind of loyalty to Apple, think again. Microsoft has just released a new commercial that pits its Dell XPS 10 tablet against Apple's iPad, with Apple's own Siri delivering the punch lines. The ad targets some of the iPad's lack of features, such as its inability to do two things at once and its lack of an SD card slot. It also makes fun of the iPad's price versus the Dell tablet, although it uses a 32GB iPad model and a promotionally priced Dell model for comparison. While essentially all the points in ... more

Eddy Cue Stands Trial, Admits Apple Raised Ebook Prices
Posted by on . No responses
Yesterday, we told you about Apple's ongoing trial against the U.S. Department of Justice, and that Eddy Cue was set to take the stand today. Well Cue was in court today in New York City to answer questions from the DOJ, and he has given some new interesting details to the case. While Cue admitted in court today that Apple's deal with book publishers did in fact raise ebook prices, he argues that Apple didn't pressure publishers to force these prices upon the entire market. "They had expressed they wanted higher prices from us," Cue said, referring to the ... more

Posted by on . No responses
iOS debuted to mix reviews at WWDC on Monday, featuring a complete redesign from previous versions of iOS. Like Tim Cook said, iOS 7 is the biggest change to iOS since the launch of the original iPhone, thanks to Jony Ive's vision. One person, though, who actually worked on developing the icons for the original Macintosh, is on board with the new look. Susan Kare, if you've never heard of her, is a bit of an Apple legend and icon expert. She was with Apple in the early-mid 80s and designed a number of famous Apple icons. Kare left Apple in ... more

Apple Again Considering Bigger iPhone Screens, Cheaper Models In Different Colors?
Posted by on . No responses
We've heard it before and now we're hearing it again. According to Reuters this morning, Apple is considering launching iPhones with 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch displays, as well as cheaper models in different color options. In the history of the iPhone, Apple has only had two screen sizes for the iPhone -- 3.5-inches and 4-inches -- but now Apple is reportedly "considering" expanding this change up. Note the "considering." During his appearance at D11 this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted that Apple is open to the idea. He said a larger screen "comes with a lot of trade-offs," but ... more

Posted by on . No responses
There's nothing worse than having your new iPhone or MacBook start to fail on you just a few months after your one year warranty expires (It happened to Josh). That's why customers in France, Belgium, and Germany should be glad to hear that Apple has just shifted all of its product warranties from one year to two year warranties. Apple has been under pressure from several European countries to change its warranty practices to better match the EU's mandatory two year warranty policy. Apple has also taken flack for what critics say is the company's attempt to offer customer's an ... more

Apple Still Finding Trouble In Ebook Case Over E-mail Written By Steve Jobs
Posted by on . No responses
Apple has taken another blow in its popularized ebook price fixing trial, thanks to a newly presented e-mail written by Steve Jobs to Eddy Cue. The new evidence presented by the DOJ seems to show Apple's former CEO Steve Jobs disproving Apple's current statement that it was "indifferent" to how book publishers set their prices for competing services like Amazon. If you haven't been following, Apple has been accused of purposefully and artificially creating a higher ebook price across the market. To do this, Apple reportedly pressured book publishers into selling their books to companies like Amazon at "agency model" pricing, ... more

iFixit's Teardown Of New 13-Inch MacBook Air Reveals Smaller SSD, Bigger Battery
Posted by on . No responses
Apple released a new 13-inch MacBook Air at Monday's WWDC and, like all other Apple products before it, it's been through iFixit's now traditional initiation process. iFixit's teardown of the new machine reveals that Apple didn't make any major changes but there are definitely a few worth mentioning. iFixit's team discovered that the PCIe-based SSD module from Samsung is smaller than the one in the previous model's Toshiba SATA module. This also means that the drive isn't compatible with earlier MacBook Air models. According to Apple, using PCIe connections instead of SATA will make them "up to 45% faster." Apple revealed ... more

iOS 7 Activation Lock Has Lawmakers Cautiously Optimistic
Posted by on . No responses
Yesterday, Apple announced that it is stepping up theft prevention with iOS 7 with Activation Lock. This feature will not allow iOS devices with Find My iPhone activated to have the service deactivated without first entering the Apple ID and password associated with the device. This feature addition seems like a direct response to lawmakers who have proposed that mobile phone manufacturers add a "kill switch" to mobile phones so they can be remotely deactivated in the case of theft. After these lawmakers heard about Apple's move to help prevent iPhone theft, they seem to be optimistic about Apple's move, ... more
